In addition to removing stains, baking soda also has a strong disinfecting and deodorizing power.

Cornstarch is also a grandmother's remedy to get rid of blood stains on the mattress. As with baking soda, you can dilute it with water and add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to increase the effectiveness of the treatment.

Cover the stain with the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes, then clean it with a damp cloth.

Hydrogen peroxide

You can use hydrogen peroxide, in small quantities, directly on the stain: soak a cotton ball and place it on the affected surface, then remove it and pat with a damp cloth.

If the stain is still fresh, simply dilute the hydrogen peroxide with water and remove the halo with a microfiber cloth.

Mild detergent or bleach

A mild detergent or bleach may also be helpful in removing blood stains:

  • Moisten the area to be treated
  • Pour a little detergent on the stain and let it sit
  • If using bleach, pour some onto a sponge and wipe the affected area
  • Rinse off any residue with a cloth and clean water
